CIT Group Inc., the century-old lender that hasn’t been able to persuade the government to back its debt sales, says its demise would put 760 manufacturing clients at risk of failure and “precipitate a crisis” for as many as 300,000 retailers.
A collapse would ripple across the “small and medium-sized businesses who rely on CIT to operate — to pay their vendors, ship goods to their customers and make their payroll,” the New York-based lender said in internal documents obtained by Bloomberg News that make the case for its importance to the U.S. economy. CIT spokesman Curt Ritter declined to comment on the documents…

Our Florida Chapter is looking into the feasibility of holding a meeting for our members throughout the Southeast. We have a considerable number of members and supporters in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas and we would like to meet you in person and give you some ideas on how to become more politically active. At the meeting we’ll give a review of past activism in our region, and we’ll tell you about our media projects and our recent successes using Youtube and other video hosting sites to get our message out to the public.
Other topics we’ll discuss will be my last campaign for Florida representative and how we can use political campaigns to generate publicity for our organization. I’ll also be speaking about ways to get involved with your local political committees. The meeting will be conducted by Todd Weingart, our Florida Chapter coordinator and myself. The meeting will be open to non-members as well as members.
Right now we’re in the planning stages of this event, so we need those of you who can commit to attending to contact us at info@ncoal.com. If we can get a substantial number of commitments and advance ticket sales then we’ll set up a date during the second half of the year at a conference room located in the greater Tallahassee area.
We look forward to hearing from you.

President Barack Obama’s controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is blaming “them Jews” for keeping him from speaking to the president. Wright, the former pastor of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, said he hasn’t spoken to Obama since he became president.
“Them Jews ain’t going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he’ll talk to me in five years when he’s a lame duck, or in eight years when he’s out of office,” Wright told the Daily Press of Newport News following a Tuesday night sermon at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers’ Conference.
“They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. … I said from the beginning: He’s a politician; I’m a pastor. He’s got to do what politicians do.”

The yen fell from the near highest level in more than two months against the dollar after North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in three years and launched three short-range missiles, posing a threat to the region’s security.
The euro traded near the strongest in almost five months versus the dollar and rose against the pound after a report showed German business confidence in May improved for a second month. New Zealand’s dollar declined versus the greenback on concern export revenue will drop after the U.S. increased subsidies for its dairy products…

GM and Chrysler are going to close dealerships. The U.S. government says they have to do this to become viable companies. But how do these two automakers decide which dealerships they’ll close? And how does a dealership closing affect you, the consumer?
Consumers may think that because Chrysler is in bankruptcy court, there will be a huge liquidation sale on the vehicles so they can get rid of the inventory before they close the dealerships. Unfortunately for bargain hunters, this is not what goes on in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, or reorganization bankruptcy. Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows the debtor (ie: Chrysler) to restructure its debt in court…

General Motors’ decision to shut down 13 assembly plants for up to 11 weeks this summer will disrupt far more than the lives of nearly 24,000 workers, rippling out to damage part suppliers, local businesses and state economies.
The Detroit automaker had little choice. GM, surviving on $13.4 billion in federal loans, must steady itself, slash costs and align production levels with the shrunken demand if it wants to live much longer. The announcement Thursday comes as GM races the government’s June 1 deadline to squeeze deeper concessions from bondholders and the United Auto Workers union.

Well, what I had expected to happen has come to pass. If I could predict the outcome of sporting events, or pick lottery numbers with this level of accuracy I’d be rich!
I’m speaking, of course, of the vast amount of material that is being written for these Nationalist Matters broadcasts without me even having to lift a finger. I thought that I’d have a couple of news items to share with you this month. Instead, I have five different topics to cover, and none of them were even on the radar at the time that the broadcast was assembled last month! Well, OK, maybe one of them was on my mind previously, but that’s it.
Take, for example, the article published in the “Financial Times” on March 12th with the headline of “WalMart Looks to Hispanic Market”. Sure, WalMart marketing themselves to the brown hoard is hardly newsworthy in itself. Hell, every time I used to go into a WalMart I was inundated with the stench of Mestizo madness!
However, that’s not what this article is talking about. No, this time WalMart has gone above and beyond the call of stupidity! I quote to you from the article:

America’s five largest banks, which already have received $145 billion in taxpayer bailout dollars, still face potentially catastrophic losses from exotic investments if economic conditions substantially worsen, their latest financial reports show.
Citibank, Bank of America , HSBC Bank USA , Wells Fargo Bank and J.P. Morgan Chase reported that their “current” net loss risks from derivatives — insurance-like bets tied to a loan or other underlying asset — surged to $587 billion as of Dec. 31 . Buried in end-of-the-year regulatory reports that McClatchy has reviewed, the figures reflect a jump of 49 percent in just 90 days.
The disclosures underscore the challenges that the banks face as they struggle to navigate through a deepening recession in which all types of loan defaults are soaring.
The banks’ potentially huge losses, which could be contained if the economy quickly recovers, also shed new light on the hurdles that President Barack Obama’s economic team must overcome to save institutions it deems too big to fail.

A couple convicted of tax evasion said Thursday that the federal government has no right to bring 11 new charges against them, including gun violations and obstruction of justice.
Ed and Elaine Brown and at least four co-conspirators stockpiled explosives and firearms at the couple’s home for possible use against law enforcement, according to the indictment.
Officials entered not guilty pleas on the Browns’ behalf at a hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Concord.
They were convicted in January 2007 of failing to pay taxes on $1.9 million of income over eight years. The couple claims the federal income tax is not legitimate. Their argument — repeatedly rejected by courts — is that no law authorizes the federal income tax and that the 1913 constitutional amendment permitting it was never properly ratified.

In the world of shopping centers, strip malls and the cities that house them, a closed Ann Taylor here or an out-of-business Circuit City there might not matter much.
But the timing and immensity of the current downturn in retail is dire, and not just for the employees who lose jobs, the company shareholders and the shoppers who no longer can buy from their favorite stores. Cities — entire regions, even — that boomed as Americans shopped till they almost dropped for more than a decade are struggling mightily because spending has almost slammed to a stop.
The resulting store closures (150,000 are expected this year), steep declines in sales taxes collected by cities and states and the plethora of empty buildings are wreaking havoc on budgets, wrecking town center plans and ruining dreams for revitalization.
